What is essential

Over the past month, I had the luxury of time to be able to ponder the true essentials of life. Such luxuries are hard to come by in a fast-paced society that's trying its hardest to recover from difficult circumstances in recent times.

Some of us have acquired new knowledge and skills, while others took to working from home like a fish to water. We connected deliberately with people that matter the most to us. When all is said and done, we unique individuals with unique circumstances, who responded in very unique ways. I came to appreciate that a lot more.

Loving on cats is always essential, no matter how grumpy they look.

Over the past few years, I have discovered that some things are essential and other things, not so much.

  1. Staying connected It's so important to nurture your relationships. Your relationship with yourself, God and others help to keep you equilibrated spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

  2. Work that matters I've learnt the value of having work that sparks excitement. For me, that's always been in helping others learn something new. I love to get up each day, ready to make a difference rather than drag my feet in drudgery to do something that doesn't bring me any fulfilment in the slightest.

  3. Resilience That means not staying down when you are knocked over. The ability to bounce back after a setback or a difficult situation and not allowing anything on anyone to stop you in your tracks from being the best version of yourself that you could be.

  4. Intentionality Being purposeful in how you spend your resources, allocating it to where it's needed. This also means resting and having some intentional downtime. I love diffusing fragrant oils and listening to jazz while reading a book in the evenings.

What each one of us considers essential is probably going to look very different, but it is something that we need to discover for ourselves. ♡
